7 THE 2025 GLOBE G L O B A L N E W S 2025 Global Council Meeting in Milan The International Council, the governing body of the ICD, convened in Milan for its annual meeting. Officers, Councilors and guests from around the world gathered for two full days of focused deliberation, committee work and inspiring camaraderie. During the meeting, Councilors shared updates from their respective Sections, addressed governance changes and set strategic objectives for the year ahead. A significant outcome of the meeting was the establishment of the ICD’s newest Section, Section XVI Indonesia. Beyond the formal agenda, Fellows and guests were immersed in local cuisine and culture during dinner events and excursions graciously facilitated by Vice President Mauro Labanca and his event planning team. The Officer Installation and Awards Lunch concluded the 2025 Council meeting. Global President Doyle awarded several individuals the Presidential Citation award for their leadership service and special efforts throughout 2025, including Drs. Labanca, Boy Villareal, Olegario Clemente Jr., Masashi Miyazaki, S.M. Balaji, Anil Kohli, James Kim, Kenny Lee, Gordon Thompson, Eliot Paisner, Werner Lill, Gbemisola Oke and Christopher Ogunsalu. Dr. Doyle then presented the recently approved Master Fellowship to Past Global President Argirios Pissiotis. Finally, Dr. Doyle exchanged the presidential gavel and chain with incoming Global President Julio Rodriguez, and the new officers were installed. The 2026 Global Council meeting will be held in Toronto, from Sept. 24 to 26, 2026. Promoting inclusive collaboration The ICD Global has reviewed policies, nomination processes and governance structures to ensure fair representation and inclusive engagement across all Sections. We are a diverse organization by nature with over 12,000 Fellows in over 140 countries, regions and territories, but there is room to improve inclusivity at all leadership levels of the ICD globally. Recent updates to governing rules aim to expand inclusion, clarify expectations and strengthen leadership accountability. The global leadership will continue to evaluate the organization’s governance structures for gaps, underperformance and underrepresentation. Modernizing member connectivity To address the need for increased fellowship engagement and streamlined administration across Sections, the ICD has begun developing a new global membership platform. This system will allow Fellows to connect with one another from around the world, in real time, directly. Currently, there is no effective way for Fellows to do this. This Fellow-to-Fellow connection functionality will increase engagement and enable organic collaboration between Fellows around the world at an unprecedented scale. Over time, Sections will be invited to join the new membership platform, utilizing its additional features including electronic payment processing in multiple currencies, language translation and resource navigation. The development of this platform is directly supported by the global fundraising campaign efforts. Global Officers, inducted in Milan at the 2025 Global Council Meeting, will serve through the next Council Meeting in Toronto in September 2026.
