THE 2025 GLOBE
A $2,000 contribution from the ICD Global Visionary Fund
expanded outreach to remote regions, reflecting the global
network’s solidarity. The Section recognizes and appreciates
all contributors to the recovery efforts.
Looking ahead to 2026, Section XIV remains focused on
its dual mission of humanitarian service and professional
development. Leadership continues to assess the needs
of disaster-affected regions, ensuring that resources are
utilized where they provide the greatest benefit. Through
mutual understanding and a shared spirit of service, the
Section intends to uphold the ideals of the College while
navigating the complexities of the current
landscape.
This ongoing dedication ensures that Sec-
tion XIV remains a pillar of the dental
profession in Southeast Asia.
SECTION HIGHLIGHTS
Rebuilding for the future in the face of challenges
S
ection XIV Myanmar continues to grow despite ongo-
ing regional challenges. The Section remains focused
on recognizing service and strengthening professional
fellowship. In 2025, active Fellows surpassed 200, marking
a major milestone and reflecting the resilience and commit-
ment of Myanmar’s dental community.
A key highlight of the year was the virtual induction ceremo-
ny held on July 25, 2025, which welcomed 17 new members
and expanded the Section’s reach. Leadership in attendance
included Global President Ian Doyle, Secretary General Jo-
seph Kenneally and Executive Director Chelsea Segren. The
event reflected the Fellows’ perseverance despite local chal-
lenges.
Humanitarian response to the 2025 earthquake
On March 28, 2025, a 7.7 magnitude earthquake struck
Central Myanmar near Mandalay and the Sagaing Region,
causing widespread devastation, over 4,000 deaths and im-
pacting millions. Already facing instability, the country expe-
rienced urgent humanitarian needs, with severe damage to
infrastructure, housing and dental communities.
In response, the Section established the ICD Section XIV
Earthquake Relief Funds to provide targeted humanitarian
and educational support in the hardest-hit areas. Local Fel-
lows played a key role in delivering aid under the ICD frame-
work. International collaboration strengthened these efforts.
