THE 2025 GLOBE
Europe hosts the 68th annual meeting in the land of Mozart
T
he 68th Annual Meeting of Section V was held in
Salzburg, Austria, from June 19 to 22, 2025. Presi-
dent Werner Lill and Austrian District Regent Hans
Mayr welcomed officers, regents and nearly 350 participants,
including 63 new Fellows. Global President Ian Doyle and
Immediate Past President of the USA Section Ira Titunik
were among the distinguished guests.
“(More than) A little night music”
The meeting opened with a chamber concert in the Wiener
Saal of the Mozarteum titled “(More than) A Little Night
Music.” The Mozarteum, founded in honor of Salzburg’s
most famous son, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, provided a
fitting cultural introduction to the gathering. Participants
later attended a reception at the Imlauer Pitter Hotel, which
served as the central venue for board meetings and the sci-
entific program.
Collegiality and scientific exchange
Friday’s program began with meetings of the Board of Re-
gents and Officers, followed by the full session of Regents
and Officers. That evening, Fellows and guests gathered at
the historic Stiegl Keller for a welcome reception, enjoying
traditional Austrian cuisine and the specialty beers of the
Stiegl and Wildshut breweries.
On Saturday, delegates attended the scientific program at the
Imlauer Hotel Pitter, featuring four lectures on cranioman-
dibular disorders, including psychiatric and psychosomatic
aspects of temporomandibular dysfunction, the Viennese
occlusal concept, treatment of locked joints and condylar
positioning in orthodontics.
The Humanitarian Forum highlighted the College’s com-
mitment to service. Presentations included Elisabeth and
Werner Lill’s dental outreach work in Kenya, the Mai Tam
House of Hope project in Vietnam presented by Dr. Robert
E. Morris, updates from Mundo A Sorrir in Portugal, and a
powerful account of providing dental care in Ukraine under
martial law by Dr. Anastasia Dienga.
Induction of new Fellows
The highlight of the meeting was the induction ceremony
held in the Großer Saal of the Stiftung Mozarteum, an
art-deco concert hall built between 1911 and 1914. In this
distinguished setting, new Fellows from 12 districts of the
Europe Section were formally inducted
before colleagues, family members and
guests. Following addresses by Dr. Doyle
and Dr. Lill, the Section President for-
mally passed the Section presidency to
Dr. Mauro Labanca.
