Provisions were also made for rendering oral health services for institutionalized geriat- ric patients, women, school children and individuals with special needs. A mega month-long school dental health program was organized, cov- ering 20,000 school children from 54 schools in Mangalore City. To propagate awareness, fight prejudice and improve education among Indian population regarding AIDS, a sensitization program was organized in Moradabad. To curb the menace of tobacco, initiatives were taken including a to- bacco cessation training program. On May 31, “World no tobacco day”, a rally occurred in Patna, India, with signages in vernacular language. This was integrated with free dental check-up and a small enactment to spread awareness about the detri- mental effects of tobacco. The centenary year of ICD was earmarked by a social cause through a hygiene awareness run focusing on ill effects of bad oral hygiene and tobacco consumption. Dental Education To align the efforts for continuing dental education amongst the den- tal fraternity, courses were conduct- ed, including foundation courses and a plethora of courses on nova techniques. Moments of Triumph Endeavours were made to encour- age young dentists by promoting their scientific efforts in partner- ship with FAMDENT. Additionally, ICD Fellows celebrated accom- plishments by virtue of their distin- guished services in dentistry. Prof. Hari Prakash was awarded with the Guident Life time achievement award; Prof. Mahesh Verma was elected to the Science Committee of the FDI and was conferred with the TC White Fellowship by Royal Col- lege of Surgeons and Physicians (Glasgow); Dr. LK Gandhi and Dr. T Samraj were conferred with the Sushruta Award; and Dr. Anil Kohli was bestowed with the Mahatma Gandhi Leadership Award by NRI Welfare Society in the British Hall of Commerce. Scientific Convocation Notable efforts towards dental edification were made at the 2018 convocation “New Frontiers In Den- tistry”. The conference was futuris- tic in its efforts to explore advanced techniques and technologies in treating challenging cases and offer solutions with successful outcomes. Numerous aspects of dentistry were explored, including evidence- based practice, current concepts, advanced surgical protocols, and latest advances in research and technology through varied media. Several eminent speakers shared their opinions to nearly 500 dele- gates participating from across the globe. Fifty-four new Fellows were inducted, and two Fellows received the Master Award. Section VI and Fellows have gen- erously supported the ICD Core Val- ues through humanitarian and lead- ership causes. The list of pursuits is endless, and the contributions reflect the spirit and commitment of the Fellows.
