GNYDM and ICD Section I, District 2 New York helped to facilitate the event, which inducted candidates from nine nations including the Caribbean Islands, Central America and Cuba. he induction of Cuban Fellows was historic for the ICD. Fellow Julio Rodriguez, Councilor and USA Regent, has been appointed College Liaison to Cuba. Dr. Rodriguez represented ICD at the annual meeting of the Cuban Dental Association, earlier in October, and was able to make agreements with the Cuban governmentfortheirsupportofestablishingICDintheircountry. Our goal is to further establish the College in Cuba in 2017. Read more about the ICD International Convocation in New York City. 2016 Council Meets Out West he International Council is the worldwide governing body of ICD made up of representatives of ICD Sections and Regions. he 2017 annual meeting was held in Denver, Colorado, USA, on October 22-23, 2016. he Council made several historic decisions, including going all digital with College communications. he Councilors also held a strategic thinking session that focused on membership recruitment and retention, and proposed initiatives for membership development such as Sections subdividing into districts with local leadership. Moreover, to encourage ICD humanitarian and educational projects by ICD Fellows, Guidelines for ICD Projects were adopted. During the meeting, several awards were presented, including to Drs. John Tullner and homas O’Hara for services to the ICD/CDC Get Smart About Antibiotics program. his initiative promotes judicious use of antibiotics by dentists and the public to prevent the development of drug resistant bacteria. ICD is collaborating with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Dr. Raghu Puttaiah received an award for services to the ICD Dental Safety Program, and Dr. William Cheung for fundraising in Asia. he Council approved Master Fellow status for Dr. Robert Baker, of Canada, and presented the new Distinguished Service Award to Dr. Rajiv Chugh, of India, and Dr. Kikuo Kobayashi, of Japan. In the spirit of international goodwill, “Colorado style”, the Councilors enjoyed an ICD Western Outing evening at the famous Fort Restaurant, in Morrison, Colorado. Understanding and collegiality between peoples of diferent cultures blossom in social settings and is an important aspect of International Council meetings. Read more. Living the Mission Through Education he College was founded partly on the concept of information sharing. hrough the ICD Dental Safety Program, the College has returned to its roots and has developed continuing education programs about infection control and occupational safety in dental practice. his past year, programs were presented in India and Vietnam, designed to train the trainers from dental schools, and to maximize the impact throughout the dental community. he Organization for Safety, Asepsis and Prevention (OSAP) and ICD collaborated in delivering a two-day seminar in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, facilitated by ICD Region 31 Vietnam. It preceded the annual meeting of the South East Asia Association for Dental Education (SEAADE). Several dental schools from South East Asia and more than 500 individuals attended.
