India Visit Strengthens Fellowship and Leadership Development

When Global President Julio Rodriguez visited India in February, his itinerary extended beyond formal meetings. The visit provided opportunities to engage with Section VI Fellows, discuss professional priorities and strengthen relationships across the Section.

A Vibrant Start: Celebrating Holi

The visit began on Feb. 27 at the PSK Convention Centre in New Delhi with a celebration of Holi, the traditional Indian festival of colors. Known as the festival of spring, love and new beginnings, Holi is a time when communities come together to bridge divides and foster unity. Section VI Fellows warmly welcomed Dr. Rodriguez to this event, which allowed him into the heart of their culture. With more than 150 participants, the celebration provided a festive setting for the Global President to connect with local Fellows and discuss the region’s unique challenges and opportunities.

Strategic Growth and Professional Excellence

Following the cultural festivities, the focus shifted to the Board of Regents meeting on Feb. 28 at the India International Centre in New Delhi. Leaders addressed key operational areas, including office management, expenses and member retention. A significant outcome of these discussions was the proposal for a student exchange program, which aims to create cross-border collaboration and new educational pathways for the next generation of dental leaders.

The professional momentum continued on March 1 with the Convocation Day at Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University. Serving as the chief guest, Dr. Rodriguez presided over an inspiring ceremony that included the M.L. Soni Oration and the induction of 22 new Fellows into the College. The program also honored service by presenting three Humanitarian Awards, two Essay Awards, 39 Student Awards and 14 Appreciation Awards.

Planting Seeds for the Future

The final leg of the visit on March 2 took the delegation to K.D. Dental College in Mathura. Beyond the academic exchange, Dr. Rodriguez and local leaders participated in a tree-planting ceremony on the college grounds. This ritual holds deep meaning, symbolizing long-term growth and the intentional cultivation of leadership instincts among the next generation of oral health professionals.

The dental college campus serves as a vibrant hub of activity, supporting more than 500 students and 100 faculty members who dedicate significant time to humanitarian outreach throughout the year. For an institution so deeply committed to service, the visit from our Global President was more than a formal occasion; it boosted the morale of the entire campus, reaffirming the meaningful impact of their collective work.

Together, these activities reflected the Section’s emphasis on professional relationships, leadership development and service.
