“MOM-n-PA” Tackles Dental Pain Head-On, Offering Care and Comfort

The Pennsylvania Mission of Mercy (MOM-n-PA) program took place at the Santander Arena, in Reading, Pennsylvania, USA. The two-day initiative saw 1,572 patients and treated 1,392 patients. Over 20% reported they were in pain upon registration.

The grant supported an event at the Santander Arena, Reading, PA, that treated 1,392 unique patients across 1,572 total visits. Over 20% reported they were in pain upon registration. The event was made possible by 763 volunteers, including 19 Fellows. The mission delivered 10,051 dental procedures across multiple specialties, including medical and dental triage, pediatric dentistry, restorative procedures, endodontics, oral surgery and partial and complete dentures.

For sustainability, patients received oral health education, home care products and referrals to three community dental clinics for continued care, while collected data was shared with local organizations to advocate for increased access to dental care and funding in Pennsylvania.

Each year, the MOM-n-PA program seeks to relieve the pain and suffering from dental disease for vulnerable communities across Pennsylvania, educate patients on preventive dental measures through personalized education and distribution of home care products, compile data on the dental needs of the served communities, and educate policy makers through social media, press conferences and tours of the dental mission.
