Humanitarian work is often imagined as something that happens across borders in distant lands. Yet, Section I USA Fellow Dr. Benjamin Ingram reveals that real, transformative service can begin right where we live: in our own communities. With the generous support of the ICD Global Visionary Fund, USA Section Foundation and Henry Schein Cares, Dr. Ingram and his dedicated team at the Ingram Dental Clinic in Piedmont, Alabama, embarked on a heartfelt mission. Together, they reached over 2,400 neighbors in 2024, providing essential dental supplies valued at more than US $4,300 (2,420 tubes of toothpaste alongside thousands of toothbrushes and floss packs), offering not just hygiene products, but a pathway to better health and dignity.
Serving as a lifeline between abundant resources and urgent needs, Dr. Ingram collaborated with six trusted local partners to bring care and hope to people of all ages, from preschoolers with bright smiles to seniors receiving geriatric care. For the youngest among them, hygiene kits and education were distributed through the First Baptist Church of Piedmont Day Care Program, planting seeds of lifelong health. School-aged children, many of whom face economic hardship, were uplifted through the “Kid Check” initiative in local elementary and middle schools, ensuring oral care was within reach.
The outreach extended its compassionate touch to vulnerable adults at the Piedmont Benevolence Center and to cancer patients at the Venecia Foundation, who received kits to help maintain their oral health during challenging treatments. Finally, the team delivered hygiene and denture kits to seniors at Piedmont Health Care Center and Duggar Mountain Specialty Care Assisted Living, honoring every generation and affirming that they matter deeply.
By weaving high-quality supplies into the fabric of these vital community programs, Dr. Ingram transformed a donation into a powerful movement of health and hope: a testament to what can be achieved when we channel kindness locally, touching lives across generations. This is a celebration of the profound impact that begins at home and grows outward, inspiring us all to see the humanitarian potential where we stand.
