Historic Meeting in Peru Inspires Renewed Fellowship and Welcomes New Leaders

The ICD Section IV Regents Meeting and Convocation was held at the Souma Hotel in Lima, Peru, on September 4-6.

A business meeting was held all day on Thursday and half day on Friday. Regents in attendance were from Uruguay, Paraguay, Chile, Peru and with virtual attendance from Brazil; they gather to coordinate and apply initiatives to help the citizens of their respective countries, combining strategies, knowledge and common sense.

All districts presented their reports of activities for the year and plans for the future; there was moderate discussion regarding challenges for the new leadership of the Section, improving communications and promoting stronger relationships with Section III Mexico to strengthen Latinoamerica. It was a magnificent opportunity to see what the College means in the world and in the heart of each Fellow: friendship, respect, commitment and solidarity.

Global President Elect Julio Rodriguez was also in attendance, addressing the officers and regents at the Section business meeting.

The New Fellow Orientation was held on Friday afternoon with presentations by Section IV President Alvaro Gadola, Section IV Global Councilor Elena Kavaliauskis and Global President Elect Dr. Rodriguez.

Global ICD President Ian Doyle sent a video congratulating all new Fellows.

During the ceremony, Dr. Kavaliauskis was confirmed as the new Section IV Councilor by Global President Elect Rodriguez, and Dr. Milton Ramos (Chile) was confirmed as incoming President of the Section.

For the convocation, Peru inducted 10 new Fellows and re-instated 6 Fellows.

The initial convocation address was given by Dr. Gadola, and the second part of the convocation address was given by Dr. Rodriguez. An award was given to Past Global ICD President Ramon Castillo (2004) from Peru, in recognition of his contributions to the College; in his absence Dr. Miguel Perea accepted the plaque.

In attendance were also dental authorities from the Dental College of Lima. A Reception Gala and entertainment was held at the Souma Hotel’s roof top restaurant with participation of all attendees and families, following the induction ceremony.

On Saturday all participants were invited to a luncheon at a popular restaurant downtown Lima.

It is difficult to put into words the emotional moments experienced in the ceremony of investiture. It was a very uplifting meeting for new and old Fellows; after 10 years of the District Peru being closed, the excitement and plans for a brighter future were quite evident.
