In partnership with Assurdent, an innovative social enterprise dedicated to providing accessible dental care to vulnerable communities, the “Let Them Smile” initiative launched in 2022. Led by Fellow Esther Chrysostome of Section XX Region 43 Hispaniola, the project utilized a community-driven, preventative approach to serve its most vulnerable groups, including impoverished children, people with disabilities and individuals living with HIV. Since then, it has evolved from a targeted outreach program into a national movement for oral health. The initiative now scales its operations to reach communities across Haiti.
Since May 2024, the project has deployed mobile clinics to deliver a range of critical services, including education sessions, fluoride treatments, restorations, and free hygiene kits. These efforts aim for a projected 25% reduction in oral disease among target groups over the next three years.
The initiative also collects data biannually to guide health policy improvements, extending its influence from the community to the national level. This expansion aims to reach 10,000 people by 2028 and demonstrates how targeted humanitarian projects can create a broad, national impact
