Section III Mexico held its Biennial Seminar March 12-14, 2026, at the Universidad Anáhuac Mayab in Mérida, Mexico. According to Section III Global Councilor Dr. Luis Carlos Paras, the event was “a celebration of professional excellence and human connection, where the advancement of science meets our shared commitment to integrity, compassion, and the service of humanity.” Since its inception in San Miguel de Allende in 2005, this program has advanced dental science, disseminated dental knowledge and strengthened professional bonds. This year, the seminar welcomed more than 500 participants, including dental professionals, university faculty and students. Guests traveled from Mexico, the United States, Peru and Guatemala. Global leaders were also present, including ICD Global President Dr. Julio Rodriguez, ICD Global Vice President Dr. Antonio Bello Roch and ICD Central America Vice Regent Dr. Estuardo Mata Castillo.
Exploring Scientific Advancements
This year, the scientific program featured keynote sessions from distinguished dental leaders who addressed the evolving landscape of modern dentistry. Dr. Edgar Dávila discussed virtual planning and immediate function in complex reconstructions. Section III Fellow Dr. Elena Pineda presented on innovation in community dentistry. Section III Fellow Dr. Roberto Peña shared insights into the multidisciplinary management of cleft lip and palate. Section III Fellow Dr. Sergio Hernández reviewed evidence-based contemporary adhesion. Section III Fellow Dr. Roberto Wuotto explored the role of AI in smile design. Section III Fellow Dr. Jaime Edelson spoke on bridging the analog and digital divide in daily practice.
Building Bonds Beyond the Science
Following the scientific exchange, Fellows participated in a day of cultural fellowship at the Mayan archaeological site of Uxmal and the Chocolate Museum. These moments of shared history and fellowship advance the goal of the College to foster lifelong connections among dental leaders. Section III leaders shaped the experience to focus on professional growth as much as on social and cultural aspects. Dr. Luis Carlos Paras stated:
“The ICD Mexico Section remains steadfast in its mission to not only treat oral conditions but to care for human beings. By fostering a culture of mentorship and Positive Action Leadership, we ensure that the next generation of dentists, many of whom joined us in Mérida, understands that our profession’s greatest power lies in its ability to transform communities and improve lives through ethical, high-quality care.”
Dr. Paras also extended his thanks to Section III Fellow Dr. Rolando Peniche and the Universidad Anáhuac Mayab for their exceptional hospitality and facilities.
