1,200 Delegates Gather for Section XV’s 10th International Conference in Penang

From 18–20 April 2025, the International College of Dentists’ Section XV marked a major milestone with its 10th International Conference and Induction Ceremony at the Setia SPICE Convention Centre in Penang, Malaysia. The three-day event brought together more than 1,200 delegates from 28 countries, including academic leaders, clinicians, researchers and healthcare innovators, to explore the future of oral health.

Welcoming Expert Speakers from Around the World

Guided by the theme “A New Era of Digital AI Technology in Medicine and Dentistry,” the conference featured over 25 expert speakers from Japan, Australia, Hong Kong, the USA and Southeast Asia. Sessions highlighted cutting-edge advances in AI diagnostics, 3D imaging, digital orthodontics and surgical simulation, supported by a Trade & Exhibition Showcase of 30+ exhibitors from around the world.

New Fellows Welcomed into the ICD

At the heart of the gathering was the Induction Ceremony, where 96 new Fellows were welcomed into the College. The convocation also included keynote remarks from Dr. Ian Doyle, ICD Global President, and the presentation of awards for Master Fellows, Distinguished Fellows, Honorary Fellows and Presidential Citations.

The celebration extended beyond the lecture halls. The Gala Dinner on 19 April featured cultural performances—including a special presentation by the China Women Dentists group—along with recognition of speakers, sponsors and partners. Keynote guest YB Daniel Gooi Zi Sen, Penang State EXCO for Youth, Sports and Health, highlighted the importance of collaboration between dentistry and public health.

Bringing Our Motto to Life

President Adjunct Professor Dato’ Dr. How Kim Chuan praised the unity and resilience of the Section, noting that the conference was “more than just an event—it was a reaffirmation of our collective dedication to advancing the art and science of dentistry through innovation, collaboration, and service.”

With its strong focus on digital transformation, humanitarian values, and cross-cultural Fellowship, Section XV’s 10th International Conference reinforced the ICD’s mission: Recognizing Service and the Opportunity to Serve.
