Watching those scenes of destruction, horriic injuries and mass casualties, ICD Fellow Dr. Steven Moriconi knew the time had come to act. He was sure, as an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon, that there must be need of his services. He was assigned to a dental clinic in Christianville, about an hour from the capital, Port au Prince. Based on his observations, Dr. Moriconi formed a non-proit organization, Men Anpil (“Many Hands,” in Creole). Its mission is to support the dental facility in Christianville and to identify and support the medical and dental education of Haitian students. Dental and medical supplies were donated to the mission through a grant from the ICD Global Visionary Fund and the Henry Schein Cares Foundation. A volunteer team, including Region 29 Fellows Ahmed AbdelHakim, Rania El-Gazayerly and Sherif Eldakak, spent a half day with a local handicapped/disabled center, where they examined the residents’ oral health conditions and provided tooth-brushing instructions and tooth brushes. he full report.
