2018 Council in New York City The International Council, the governing body of the College, collaborated for their annual meeting in New York City, USA, on Nov. 26-27, 2018. The meetings took place simultaneously during the Greater New York Dental Meeting (GNYDM). Thirty-six Councilors representing Fellows of 122 countries participated in deliberations, committee work and strategic thinking for two days. Discussion included a review of the past year’s worldwide activities, reports from task groups and committees, new initiatives, experiences with humanitarian, educational and other ICD projects, and necessary action items that will guide the global organization for the coming year. The annual work of the International Council determines the operations and direction of the worldwide College. The GNYDM hosted the 2018 Council as part of their larger, international conference, which offered opportunities for dental educational programming, dental supplier exhibitions and key speakers. Additionally, activities were planned for Councilors to experience the local culture and cuisine, as well as engage with other ICD leaders and corporate partners. On the afternoon of Nov. 24, a Section XX convocation ceremony kicked off the events in New York. Seventeen new Fellows were inducted into the College, hailing from several of the Caribbean Islands and other nations. In attendance were the International Officers, many of the Councilors, the leadership of Section XX, Region 32 Eng- lish-speaking Caribbean Islands and guests. The induct- ees participated in a vibrant Fellowship Orientation Pro- gram, listened to College leaders’ wisdom and guidance of what it means to be an ICD Fellow, and received their Fel- lowship Key, Pin and Certificate. Finally, all attendees and guests enjoyed a light reception following the ceremony. To officially launch the exclusive Centennial partnership with Henry Schein, the Welcome Reception took place in on Nov. 25th. The festive stage was set for ICD Council- ors, ICD Fellows, Henry Schein delegates and guests to network, while a renowned pianist played classical music and delightful hors d’oeuvres were passed. During this event, Dov Sydney, ICD Editor and Centennial Chair, and Steve Kess, Henry Schein Vice President for Global Pro- fessional Relations, spoke about the Centennial Partner- ship and Henry Schein’s role in the College’s important anniversary. Many other topics were conversed during the 2018 Council meeting, including Section and Committee report- ing, financial planning, membership strategies and Bylaws developments. Myanmar was reinstated as Section XIV, and the Council participated in a Celebrity Luncheon host- ed by Jane Pauley, as guests of Henry Schein. The 2019 Council meeting will be held in Milan, Italy, from October 28-29, and preparations are already underway. Finally, Dr. Ross exchanged the presidential gavel and chain with in- coming President Bettie McKaig, and the 2018-2019 Inter- national Officers were installed: President Bettie McKaig (USA), President Elect Akira Senda (Japan), Vice Presi- dent Richard Smith (USA), Treasurer Keith Suchy (USA) and Editor Dov Sydney (Israel).
