Photo Album Multinational Africa Event New Fellows and ICD leaders of Africa collaborated with the Kenya Dental Association (KDA) on Nov. 9-10, 2018, for joint events in Mom- basa. The Section XX Convocation was hosted by Region 35 Eastern Africa and was organized by Coun- cilor Patel. A gala dinner and educa- tional seminars were also held over the two-day event. Over 40 candi- dates from South Africa, Nigeria, Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania were inducted. Speakers for KDA/ICD seminars were presented by ICD Councilors Mauro LaBanca, of Italy, and Stuart Loos, of USA. Secretary General Jack Hinterman presided over the ceremonies. A leadership seminar was held on Nov. 10 to set the future direction of ICD in Africa. The seminar was facilitated by Drs. Hinterman, Pa- tel and Dowell, who were assisted by Membership Chair Robinson and her developmental plan. Fel- low Malak Nagi represented Region 29 Egypt, Sudan. Prof. Phumzile Hlongwa, past Dean of Witwa- tersrand University Dental School and a new Fellow, represented Region 27 Southern Africa. From Cameroon, Prof. Michael Agbor Ashu, Dean of the Dental School in Yaoundé, represented Region 34 Western Africa. All three embodied an energetic leadership corps and have been nominated for appoint- ment to Deputy Regent positions. Overall, there is great positivity for ICD in Africa. Dr. Patel was congrat- ulated on founding such a solid and vibrant Region 35 and for organiz- ing the very successful ceremony. The event was headlined by Hon- orary Fellowship awarded to Chief Guest Ambassador Amina Moham- med, the Kenyan Cabinet Secretary for Education. Convocation at GNYDM The Greater New York Dental Meet- ing (GNYDM) was the site for an ICD convocation on Nov. 24, 2018, where 20 Fellows were inducted, representing eight countries, includ- ing the Caribbeans and Haiti. Inter- national Councilors and Officers attended. Also during the ceremony, Fellow Martha Mutis, representing the ICD Colombia Task Force, re- ceived the ICD Meritorious Award.
