Regents Meeting On September 7-8, 2018, a pleas- ant meeting took place in Montevi- deo, Uruguay, where all the District Regents of Section IV South Amer- ica held their annual meeting, shar- ing their experiences of the year and defining the lines of work for 2019. During this event, the Presi- dent, Secretary, Treasurer and Edi- tor rendered accounts, as did each- Diistrict of the Section. During the Section IV convocation ceremony, six new Fellows were inducted into the College. There is a total of 144 Active Fellows. District of Brazil In cooperation with the Casa Lar health care institution, dental care was provided to the youth popula- tion of Nossa Senhora das Gracas home, which has worked since 2014 with children under 18 at so- cial risk. There, final-year dental students from the Universidade Paulista in Sorocaba performed clinical examinations, dental plaque control and prophylaxis, under the supervision of Professors Alexan- dre Landulpho and Juliana Bellini. President’s Greeting Alex Otani T he district of Brazil was the host for the 2018-2019 pe- riod, and I had the honor to be elected President. This task is a great challenge that I will face with the help of all our Regents. Our main objective is to revitalize the Section by organizing activities with all the constituent countries. The goal is to meet with the level required by the ICD College Office. In October 2018, our Regents meeting was held in Montevideo, Uruguay, and included an investi- ture ceremony of the new Fellows. As it is a tradition in the Brazil District, several social projects have been organized. We encourage our Fellows to participate and suggest new ways of collaboration. In 2019, we hope to get stronger Section IV SOUTH AMERICA The South American Section is preparing to meet new goals and develop new strategies to better align their Districts and Fellows. At the same time, education talks on oral hygiene were given, and children received dental kits. Those who required restorative treatment were referred to the corresponding monitoring plan. Also, the Fellows of the District of Brazil have had a permanent and important participation in the main universities and associations of our profession and in dental courses and congresses. District of Chile After the assumption of Fellow Milton Ramos M. as new Director at the beginning of the year, the District has held monthly meetings with conferences for Fellows and also some to the general dental community, in order to disseminate the updated knowledge of modern dentistry so that the participants become agents who can efficiently influence the improvement of the population health index. The issues addressed included education in Chile, genetic factors of the response to periodontal infec- tion, new paradigms in cariology and periodontal examination for preg- nant women in the primary health- care system.
