Public Awareness Day District 2 had a public awareness day on “cleft lip and palate”, at a commercial center in Riyadh, KSA. It was an opportunity to explain to the public the incidence, occur- rence and treatment of this facial deformity. PHOTO GALLERY Safety, Infection Control, Antibiotic Awareness The year ended with the Section meeting activities that were hosted by District 1, in Beirut, on December 2, 2017, at the Riviera Beach Hotel. It consisted of a scientific day de- voted to “Dental Safety and Infec- tion Control” and “Antibiotic Aware- ness”. Dr. Raghunath Puttaiah, the guest speaker, covered the topics in all their aspects. The Lebanese Dental Association gave partici- pants five CE credit hours, but the meeting was purely an ICD activity. The President of the Lebanese Dental Association Dr. Carlos Khairallah, who was involved, sent a representative to the meeting. Also present were Dr. Roula Deeb, President of the North Lebanon Dental Association, and representatives of the deans of the dental schools of the Lebanese University, the Saint Joseph University and the Arab University, as well as the head of the postgraduate orthodontic program at the American University of Beirut, Dr. Joseph Ghafari. The total attendance was over 90 Fellows and guests, many of whom participated in the interactive six-hour course. At the close of the day, representatives from the Dental Schools of the Lebanese Dental UniversityandBeirutArabUniversity joined Dr. Puttaiah in drafting a three-page guide for Dental Safety. Once the final document is ready, it will be handed over to the Lebanese Dental Association for distribution to dental professionals. Zahi Khalaf Merit Award The Zahi Khalaf Merit Award is a tradition initiated by Past President Zahi Khalaf, and is given to the distinguished dental graduate students for the Lebanese University, St. Joseph University and the Beirut Arab University. In 2017, the winners were Corine Samaha, of Lebanese University, Joseph Assaf, of Saint Joseph University, and Omar Masabni, of Beirut Arab University. PHOTO GALLERY The Section’s Oral Longevity initiative is still an ongoing activity. On December 16, 2017, as part of a half-day symposium organized by the Lebanon chapter of the IADR on “Oral Public Health In and Beyond Lebanon: Research and Program Implementations”, ICD International Councilor Cedric Haddad gave a presentation on “ICD Geriatric Care Campaign”.
